I designed a looped travel bag for one of Wonder Designs' clients, built to be worn wrapped around the body rather than carried or slung over one shoulder. The final design combined performance fabric with leather, and despite its light, minimal form, it was built to hold a 13" laptop, two books, four pieces of clothing and various smaller travel necessities.
Challenge
The brief called for a bag that looked designer while still being genuinely useful for travel. These two goals often pull in opposite directions: premium, minimal designs tend to sacrifice storage and practicality, while highly functional travel bags tend to look bulky or utilitarian rather than refined. The challenge was to deliver both without compromising either.
Solution
The loop form was key to resolving that tension: wrapping around the body rather than hanging off it kept the silhouette close, structured and deliberate, avoiding the boxy look that comes with conventional travel bags. Pairing performance fabric with leather reinforced that same balance, lending the surface a refined finish while keeping the overall weight low. The result was a bag that read as considered and premium first, with its practical capacity built in rather than visibly bulging out.
